Day 2: Where you’d like to be in ten years
You know I have been asked this question many times in interviews throughout the years. When I was in my early twenties it was hard to see past next month. How was I going to tell someone where I wanted to be in 10 years? It was a question I always struggled with. I would always come up with some BS story that sounded half way good. Now that I am knocking on forty years old, I know where I want to be.
In ten years I want to be in a home I love, working a job I enjoy, and not wanting to worry about my finances. Let me elaborate a little. I want to own a home. Not just any home, but one I had built. Not by my own hands mind you. It would surely fall over if I build it. When I say I want to build a home, I mean I want to have one built and be in the mix of deciding the features of the home, how it will look, etc. I want to build my dream home.
As for a job I enjoy. Well, I currently work in IT. To be more specific, I work as a site admin doing break fix work, some networking, etc. I want to further my career. In ten years I want to be in charge of a team, or working with some form of new technology. I know that does not sound like much, but it’s what I want. I enjoy the work I do and I now it well. I also know I would be a good manager or team lead.
The last is a little tougher, but is still something I can accomplish. I don’t want to worry about my finances. To be able to do this I will need to make some form of investments. I have dabbled in penny stocks just testing things out. What I learned is that I suck at picking stocks. I guess that’s why they have professionals. That being said, stocks are not my only way of accomplishing this.
I know as I progress in my career, I can get certifications. That will help improve my worth in the IT field tremendously. Another way would be crypto currency. I know it could be risky, but I have had some moderate success with it. As time goes by, I can only hope the value of the crypto coins go up. It could be a good investment for my future. So there you have it; where I want to be in ten years. What do you think? Leave your comments and be sure to give me a follow.
